What is popping the clutch?
Popping/dropping the clutch is the opposite of slipping the clutch. Both can be hard on the car. They are both done usually to make up for a lack of power, while trying to break traction and spin the tires, or just generally take off faster from a standstill. Popping the clutch (releasing the clutch pedal all at once, sometimes accompanied by revving the motor to excessive levels) will shock load the driveline, making breakage a real possibility, and generally shortens its life. Slipping the clutch excessively will create extreme amounts of heat, ultimately creating heat checking (spots of hardened metal that reduce grip of the clutch on the surface, and chatter from inconsistent friction), Glazing (a hard slick surface on the metal, reducing friction), Or even melting the adhesive agents used to hold the clutch material together, severely shortening the clutches life. Popping the clutch is also a term used for starting the car by pushing it down a hill, putting it in gear, and engagin
