What is pop art anyone?
Pop art is short for “popular art”. It means art that is symbolic of or produced by the popular culture. It was a movement that began in the ’50s in the States and in England. Pop art emerged, in part, in response to a growing consumer culture and it often features ads, comic book panels or simple consumer items that are familiar to all of us. It is often characterized by large areas of flat, bright colors, and it’s poster and collage-like style. One of the most famous pop artists was Andy Warhol. I’m sure you’ve seen his print of Marilyn Monroe: http://www.asds.org/ClassProjects/8thAH_… Some other pop artists include Jasper Johns, Billy Apple, Roy Lichtenstein and John McHale.
