What is Polyetherimide Thermoplastic Material?
Pure polyetherimide (PEI) is an amber transparent, amorphous high performance polymer. Ultem® is a transparent polymer with an amber hue. Rods and sheets composed of polyetherimide plastic are typically dark, almost black in appearance and glass filled formulations appear slightly less dark, almost caramel in color. What allows PEI to perform continually in high heat applications is its ability to maintain its strength up to 200°C while unfilled, transparent grades are equal in strength to other thermoplastic materials with opacifying fillers. Polyetherimide Plastic Properties Inherently flame resistant and low smoke generating, Ultem® polyetherimide excels in various medical applications that require repeated sterilization, as well as structural applications that require a tolerance for high heat. Polyetherimide is a uniquely balanced thermoplastic material that exhibits both high mechanical properties and processibility. Some of its mechanical properties include a remarkable elevated
