PMETB aims to improve both the skills of doctors and the quality of healthcare offered to patients and the public. PMETB does this in three main ways: • Setting and securing standards for postgraduate medical education and training. This includes curriculum approval and assessment; prospectively approving all training posts and programmes; quality assuring and evaluating the management of postgraduate medical training; and setting the overarching principles under which selection into specialist training must operate. • Certifying doctors for the GP and specialist registers.
