What is play in a steering wheel?
When someone refers to play in the steering wheel. They are referring to the amount that the steering wheel is turned, before it starts to turn the road wheels. For e.g. If you had a ball joint faulty on your steering arm or track rod. The steering wheel would turn quite a bit before you would start to turn your road wheels. Direct steering is when you turn your steering wheel and the road wheels move at the same time. This also tells you that there are no faults with your steering parts.
