What is Pinewood’s Worship Choir all about?
A few years ago we changed the name of our 11:00 Worship service choir from “Chancel Choir” to “Worship Choir.” This was a very intentional change, and was done to support the teaching that we were doing about the purpose of the choir ~ our choir ~ in our services; in the worship life of our church. We figured that most people knew what a choir was, but probably could not easily define the word “Chancel.” Besides, we wanted to emphasize our calling and our purpose, which is to lead worship. Our name change reinforces some subtle and some not so subtle differences that we have been working through. To expound on some of these, I’d like to share a bit from some material written by Dave Williamson, founder of an organization called “The Worship Leading Choir” which is dedicated to helping traditional performance based choirs become worship leading choirs.
