What is photosynthetic pigment?

Yes, it’s totally normal for plants! Chlorophyll is the photosynthetic pigment that plants use to absorb energy from the sun. It’s called a pigment because it’s what makes the plants green. Chlorophyll isn’t green by chance: it’s green by evolution. By reflecting green light, the plants can absorb more energy, from the red and blue ends of the spectrum, easily. Chlorophyll works by having some of its electrons knocked out of place, and it uses that to synthethize sugars and so forth with the resulting ions, in a rather complicated series of chemical reactions. It’s really neat. It’s totally normal, and if you DON’T find it in your household plants, they’re probably dead!
