What is photo comparison technology (better known as facial recognition technology)?
Photo comparison technology, is more commonly and accurately, known as facial recognition technology. It is classed as a form of biometric technology that checks the digitized photo of an individual against a database of other photos for the purpose of trying to ensure that a particular individual is unique within that system. In the case of enhanced driver’s licenses or passports and other documents, this technology is used to help prevent an individual from acquiring multiple versions of a document under different names. Upon application for a driver’s licence or photo ID, the newly captured facial image is compared against all others in the database. In the case of re-application, comparison is also made with the individual’s image from the previous application to test whether there is sufficient similarity. When a match is found in the first case, or a mis-match in the second case, more detailed examination is conducted before issuing the licence or laying fraud charges. To further
