What is Philately All About?
Stamp collecting has a language all its own, as do other hobbies. The term “philately” was coined by the French in the early days of postage stamp collecting. It is a combination of two Greek words, philo (lover, or fond of) and ateleia (free of payment or tax). Philatelists are people who like not having to pay taxes! Remember that for a very long time it was the receiver, not the sender of the letter who got stuck paying for its transportation. Let’s take a look at seven main features of a stamp. Not all are present on all stamps. if (document.images) { image0 = new Image image1 = new Image image2 = new Image image3 = new Image image4 = new Image image5 = new Image image6 = new Image image7 = new Image image0.src = “24-original.jpg” image1.src = “24-vignette.jpg” image2.src = “24-frame.jpg” image3.src = “24-denomination.jpg” image4.src = “24-country.jpg” image5.src = “24-margin.jpg” image6.src = “24-borderline.jpg” image7.src = “24-perforations.jpg” } Click the blue term to see it on
