What is phenylpropanolamine (PPA)?
Phenylpropanolamine, also known as PPA, is a chemical that been used for more than 50 years and is found in many over-the-counter cold and cough remedies and appetite suppressants. Phenylpropanolamine (PPA) is also found in many prescription decongestants. Phenylpropanolamine (PPA) is believed to increase the risk of hemorrhagic stroke, especially in young women. This is particularly true of women who ingested appetite suppressants containing phenylpropanolamine (PPA) or who consumed other drugs containing phenylpropanolamine (PPA) while taking appetite suppressants.
