What is pH and what is the pH scale?
A pH of 5 would be seen in, for example, an acid pool or a peat bog. A pH of 3 is an average laboratory acid, and a pH of 1 is the most acid that something can get (although this is not a measure of how strong it is technically). At the other end of the scale, a pH of 9-9.5 would be seen in the mineral-rich African Rift Lakes, around 12 is bleach, and 14 is extremely alkaline.
