Penicillin is used in the treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible, usually Gram-positive, organisms. ChaCha!

I’m not a microbiologist and can’t say which particular bacteria are most susceptible to penicillin. However, it acts to break down the material in the bacterial cell wall and in doing so, destroys the cell. Penicillin was the first antibiotic discovered. However most bacteria are now resistant to penicillin because of overuse. I have seen it, and several other older antibiotics for sale to treat sick aquarium fish. Therefore, I doubt such an old antibiotic has any real use in human medicine anymore. However, the mold which produces it is indispensable in the making of cheese. Any of the “blue” cheeses get their blue/green veins from the growth of this mold.
