Kids learn “active listening skills,” and then sit around and talk and listen. They play at therapy. This might be a good thing to fly in an L2 class. In real life one never knows what is coming up in conversation. However, in the classroom, especially in the first and second year classes where we are trying to develop good skills such as listening, we are dealing with a limited amount of vocabulary and structure.
