What is Paulownia Wood?
Paulownia is historically a tree that came from Japan and China and has now found its way to the U.S. It has long been used to make furniture, housing construction, toys, plywood, musical instruments, boats, aircraft, trains, etc. Paulownia is used as a lightweight alternative to Birch and other woods. It has one of the highest strength to weight ratios of any wood. Paulownia Wood holds nailsand screws well and does not require pilot holes to be drilled. Flat head screws can be driven flush with the surface. Paulownia is a fast growing wood that is now produced in well-maintained plantations. It remains stable during changes in humidity and experiences little shrinkage or expansion compared to most other woods. It has a light blond appearance, similar to White Ash. It stains well with a variety of colors and can be made to mimic other woods. Need to finish this unfinished piece? Check out our Stains, Paints and Topcoats.
