What Is Pakistans Conflict With India?
Pakistan’s conflict with India concerns Jammu and Kashmir, the northernmost state of India. The majority of the people are Muslim population, leading many Pakistanis to believe it should be part of their country, not part of secular India. The two countries fought wars in 1947 and 1965 over the region. India retains control of the most populated areas. Pakistan has long favored a plebiscite, as called for by a 1949 UN resolution, in which residents of the region could vote for which country they would prefer to be part of.
