What is Pacific Internet doing to assist in the reduction of junk email?
Pacific Internet has implemented filters on our email server to try and reduce commonly sent junk email and viruses. By blocking emails based on subject rather than email addresses we have a much more reliable blocking tool as by changing email addresses the junk emailer’s message still will not get through. This is not a guarantee that you will not receive common emails, as a subject change will bypass this blocking method. This also is useful in trying to stop viruses from affecting Pacific Internet customers. Viruses like the ‘Snow White’ virus are forwarded to people in your address book with the SAME subject. By blocking all emails with the same subject as the virus, we can reduce the chances of Pacific Internet customers receiving this virus through our email server. This subject blocking method has been successful in reducing instances or the ‘Snow White’ virus, the ‘Naked Wife’ virus, and many common junk emails. No matter what you do though, you may always receive junk email.
