What is ozone, and why is it used?
A-Ozone an unstable isotope of oxygen (three oxygen molecules bonded together, O3). It is generated when a high voltage spark is passed through an oxygen atom (O2). It is a powerful oxidant and disinfectant; over one and one half times stronger than chlorine. It is used to ensure that the pure water stays pure. Once it is finished it’s job, it quickly reverts back to pure oxygen, leaving no chemical or by-product behind. Ozone has a distinctive “fresh” smell, and often can be smelled in the air after an electrical storm.
