What is outreach and who defines outreach?
Outreach is working with and for the benefit of teachers from other schools. It could involve going to another school for some time each week to support and develop its teachers, or the provision of demonstration lessons either in the AST’s own class or in that of another teacher. It may involve the AST in supporting or leading initiatives across an LA. It is often coordinated at a local level by the LA AST Coordinator in conjunction with the school and the AST. Objectives that relate to outreach should be included in the AST’s job description. We expect 20% of an AST’s time to be spent on outreach work.
