What is outplacement?
Outplacement (also called career transition) is assistance designed to help individuals being terminated, or large groups being downsized, find new employment. This assistance includes working with a professional outplacement counselor/coach to develop job search skills and to plan a strategy to find a new position that is of most interest to the candidate (the person receiving outplacement services). The assistance will also include assessment of career interests, job targeting, resume development, job search strategies and techniques, interview skill development, and negotiation strategies. Depending on the program selected by the corporate sponsor, outplacement can also include an office to use every day, technology resources, and full administrative support. Outplacement will help candidates get the right job in a shorter period than those who are not provided such assistance. Outplacement is Lee Hecht Harrison’s career transition service. Outplacement focuses on teaching specific skills, strategies and techniques to help individuals conduct an effective job search. Consulting, search support, and administrative services are provided for the length of time and extent of service specified by the sponsoring organization. Outplacement can include: consulting, assessment and planning, job search training, participation in LHH’s unique Productivity Clinic and Job Search Work Teams, office space with professional administrative and telephone support, access to LHH’s Career Resource Network, access to LHH office and alumni networks, and use of our proprietary Resume Reserve and LeadLink databases.
