What is Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC)? How do I find an Outdoor Emergency Care course?
The NSP’s emergency medical training program is called Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC). The intense, fast-paced course typically starts by learning the major components of the body and how they work. While studying this subject, you also learn how to do a patient assessment. Then the class covers medical injuries and how to splint / bandage traumatic injuries. After the first couple of weeks, the course begins to focus more on realistic scenarios that allow students to get hands-on practice. Students are assigned out of class reading and workbook activities, and quizzes are often given at each class. Presentation of the course materials requires a minimum of 60 hours of classroom time to complete. All OEC courses planned for the Bay Area / Sacramento / Tahoe area are listed at http://www.oectools.org/r/.
