What is our goal for health care professionals?
As we begin a new academic year, it is a good time to evaluate what the OUCOM chapter of CMDA wants to accomplish. As co-faculty advisor, I would like to share my ideas. Jesus told us to make disciples, or in plain words, teach people to follow Jesus teaching and example. What does that look like? Well, if I understand it correctly, and I am still studying the topic, it means something radically different from what our culture teaches us! Let me illustrate by looking at our U.S. culture, focusing on the health profession, even though these ideas certainly have a wider perspective than health care! First we live in a country that idealizes liberty, individualism, democracy, pursuit of happiness and capitalism. To be free of governmental interference in our personal life is a pillar of our society. We encourage individual pride in personal achievement and self sufficiency.
