What is our approach to religious and secular holiday celebrations?
In accordance with a policy of tolerance and sensitivity to the different religious beliefs of families, we do not observe particular religious holidays in the Centre. However, these holidays are discussed from time to time acknowledging differences among families in their observance. Celebrations are secular, featuring winter, light, or the giving of gifts, which are also relevant to different religious contexts. We have occasional drives to collect goods for the Food Bank or Santa’s Anonymous or other charitable organizations catering for families in need but we do so without religious language being involved in the process. Secular holidays are also considered largely a matter for families. There are potentially many holidays that could be celebrated in a school year. Yet by definition, anniversaries are a small part of everyday life and are celebrated in different ways.
