What is Osteopathy in the Cranial Field?
Cranial Osteopathy is a refined and subtle type of osteopathic treatment that uses very gentle manipulative pressure to encourage the release of stresses throughout the body, including the head. It is extremely effective in treating a wide range of conditions in people of all ages, from newborns to the older adult. Cranial Osteopaths are trained to feel a rhythmical expansion and contraction in all body tissues, including the brain. This is called involuntary motion. The skull is made up of 26 bones which are intricately joined in such a way that during the cycle of involuntary motion the skull can change shape very slightly to accommodate the normal involuntary movement of the brain. External and internal stresses such as: birth, illnesses, accidents, or emotional trauma can leave strains to the body tissues which affect the involuntary motion. The body has a great ability to adapt and compensate for these strains but if too many build up then eventually the involuntary motion of the
