What is osmosis and diffusion for biology?

Diffusion is a process in which solute molecules move from higher concentration towards lower concentration. In case of Osmosis, the water moves towards highest solute concentration in a semi-permeable membrane.

The passing of liquid (often solvent) through a semi permeable membrane as a result of difference in concentration of solute is called osmosis. For example raisins kept in water or egg albumen kept in water undergoes endosmosis. The direction of passing of fluid depends on whether the solution is hypotonic or hypertonic. Whereas, diffusion doesn’t involve any division of solution by any membrane. It simply happens because of difference in concentration at two different places. For example, a sugar solution uniformly gets distributed in the whole water by the process of diffusion. By the way, I am not a student of biology. In India, we have to choose between maths and bio in 11th grade. I had studied those in the 9th grade and don’t have any reference to my answer.
