What is osmolality and what does it have to do with Gatorade?
Osmolality is a measure of the concentration of particles in a solution. For example water has a very low osmolality (close to zero); while some fruit juices can have very high osmolality due to large amounts of dissolved sugars. The osmolality of Gatorade is close to that of our blood, a factor that helps rapid absorption. Drinks with high osmolality levels (e.g. soft drinks and fruit juices) have slower rates of absorption.
