What is orientation?
Orientation is a program for students and parents that help them get ready for the start of school. At orientation, students will meet other students and faculty/staff members, meet with representatives from their respective school (Applied Science, Business, Liberal Arts, etc.), meet with an advisor, register for classes, get a P.O. box, pre-order their textbooks, check out extracurricular activities and hopefully have fun! Parents will meet other parents, faculty/staff and administrators and get a ton of new useful information that will help them make their own transition as you leave for school this fall. Orientation for parents and students is a mostly separate process, and we strongly encourage all parents to attend a session. If you have other questions that are not answered below, just call us and we’ll be glad to help.
Orientation is the first course that all new students (freshmen and transfers) take through the Resident Degree Program. This month-long course offers an introduction to the Prescott College methods of education as well as to backpacking skills and the natural history of Arizona. The first week is spent at a local summer camp preparing for the trip, meeting faculty advisors, and beginning academic orientation to Prescott College. The next three weeks are spent backpacking in remote areas of Arizona or participating in yoga/meditation; equine orientation or conservation orientation. There is time at the end of Orientation to find housing, buy books and supplies for the quarter, open a bank account, and relax before beginning quarter courses.
