Organic refers to the idea that it is naturally occurring in and from the artist. Modernism dealt a lot with the idea that creation is a process of opening the mind and letting the art manifest itself as opposed to being dictated to the artist in the form of a landscape or still- life or portrait. Many artists ex Jackson Pollock( not a surrealist) felt that art was meant to be a spontaneous out pouring. Dali( surrealist) built his landscapes from his mind, kind of mining his dreams and nightmares for subject matter.
