OpenSolaris is open source Solaris, based on the OSI-approved Common Development and Distribution License (CDDL). It seeks to emulate the Linux distribution model. See http://www.opensolaris.org/ for more information. Schillix, at http://schillix.berlios.de/, supports x86 and AMD64 and is the first distribution. A GNU/Debian-based distribution is Nexenta, http://www.gnusolaris.org/ Some Solaris software is still closed source (see the Roadmap on the OpenSolaris site). For these parts, one needs to use the bleeding-edge Solaris Express Community Release at http://www.sun.
