What is Open Enrollment?
A. Open enrollment is the period of time (as agreed upon by the employer and Delta Dental of Oklahoma) during which changes in an employee’s enrollment status may be allowed. For example, an employee with individual coverage changing his/her enrollment status to family coverage, etc. Typically, open enrollment occurs once a year, with the effective date of the enrollment changes being the same as the plan anniversary date. For example, if an employee chose not to enroll his/her eligible dependents at the time he/she enrolled, those dependents may be enrolled during a future open enrollment period. If the group dental plan anniversary date is March 1, enrollment changes requested during the open enrollment period will be effective March 1. If at the employee’s hire date they do not add their dependents/spouse and they choose to add them during the open enrollment period, waiting periods will apply. See late enrollee information.
Group health insurance plans have an open enrollment period each year, during which employee may enroll in coverage, modify existing coverage, or add dependents to coverage. The purpose of the waiting period and open enrollment is to prevent employees from waiting until after they discover a health problem to enroll for coverage.
Each year, Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) holds an “open enrollment period.” During this time, parents who are interested in enrollment in a school other than their designated neighborhood school for the next school year must follow the open enrollment process found on the Boulder Valley School District website, www.bvsd.org. Peak to Peak participates in this process. Please contact Peak to Peak’s main office at 303-453-4601 with any open enrollment questions related to Peak to Peak.
