First, it is important to look at your homeowner policy to make sure that the amount of insurance provided will fully cover all your valuables in the event of a large loss such as fire. It is also equally important to take an inventory of the items in your home be it a written record, or by videotape. Leave a copy of this written record with a friend or neighbor that will help you fully recall the personal property that you have in your home. It is also important that this is updated on a regular basis.
