What is OMVIC and how does it benefit me as a dealer?
OMVIC is the regulatory authority responsible for the administration of the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act (“the Act”). The purpose of the Act is to protect consumers and registrants by maintaining high standards of honesty and professionalism in the industry. OMVIC’s Board is made up of nine dealers and three consumer representatives. All 12 members of the Board have a duty in law to represent the best interests of OMVIC. They bring to Board discussions their knowledge of the industry and consumer interests. The law in this province requires that dealers and salespeople be registered under the MVDA and pay fees for the privilege of being registered. Before OMVIC was created, those fees went to the provincial government and were not reinvested in cleaning up the industry. Now that your fees go to OMVIC, every cent is reinvested in fair administration of the MVDA, building professionalism, and increasing consumer protection and confidence in the industry.
