Off pump CABG (OPCAB) is coronary bypass surgery that is performed without the use of the traditional heart-lung machine. Traditional on-pump CABG is performed with the heart temporarily stopped while the machine takes over the job of the heart and lung. This provides a motionless field for the surgeon to work. OPCAB technology allows surgeons to perform CABG on a beating heart.
