What is objective testing?
Objective testing is a form of assessment where each question has one (and only one) correct answer and there is no ambiguity about what that correct answer should be. It encompasses a wide range of question types including true/false questions, multiple choice questions (MCQs) and multiple response questions (MRQs). Objective questions are contrasted with subjective questions. For example, open-ended questions which require an extended response (such as an essay) are subjective since a wide range of responses can be expected and its not possible to define the correct answer in advance (for this reason, marking guidelines are normally provided). Computers are very limited at interpreting answers so most e-assessment systems use objective questions.
