O Brother, Where Art Thou is the name of a southern Gothic comedy movie which was written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen. The film’s setting was Mississippi at the time of the Great Depression, in the year 1937 and came out in theatres in the year 2000. The actors in the film include George Clooney, Tim Blake Nelson, John Turturo, John Goodman, Charles Durning and Holly Hunter. The film was sort of based on the classic written by Homer, the Odyssey. The movie’s soundtrack received a Grammy in the category of Album of the Year. The movie’s protagonist is an elegant, charming con man called Ulysses Everett McGill played by George Clooney. As mentioned before, the movie is loosely based on Homer’s Odyssey and has several references to the book in terms of quotations and paraphrases. The title of the movie is a reference to an element of a plot of a satirical movie called Sullivan’s Travels which was released in the year 1941 and was directed by Preston Surges.
