What is NYS-CARES and what does it mean for New Yorkers who have developmental disabilities?
NYS-CARES is a long-range initiative that provides opportunities for residential services for people with developmental disabilities. The plan, New York State – Creating Alternatives in Residential Environments and Services (NYS-CARES) was first announced on August 19, 1998, and provides placement opportunities for those who are currently on the waiting list for out-of-home residential services, as well as support for those who prefer to stay at home while they await those services.
