What is NPQICL and does it count towards meeting the EYPS entry requirement?
NPQICL is a nationally recognised qualification awarded on behalf of the Department for Education and Skills (DfES – now called the Department for Children, Schools and Families DCSF). It is considered by many Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to be equivalent to 60 Masters level CAT points. The National College for School Leadership (NCSL) recommends that HEIs admit participants to a Masters programme with one-third credit (60 points at M level) under their accreditation of prior learning (APL) arrangements, providing that they hold an NPQICL certificate. Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) requires a full degree (or full Level 5 qualification for those on the long EPD pathway). Therefore NPQICL entry requirements and exit qualification do not guarantee that candidates have achieved a degree. This means that NPQICL does not count as meeting the EYPS graduate entry requirement.
