What is normally done in neck and chin surgery?
Neck and chin surgery can usually be performed through a very small incision (about one inch) placed on the underside of the chin where most people have a natural crease in the skin. This incision heals quickly, leaving an almost imperceptible scar (click for image). Through this incision, I can perform liposuction of the wattle area as well as remove fatty jowls that tend to develop at the lower corners of the mouth. Sometimes I will also place a very small incision just behind the earlobe to perform liposuction that will further enhance the jaw line. About half of the patients I see who are seeking neck and chin cosmetic surgery have weak chins. Surprisingly, patients themselves are not aware of this.
