What is NMEA, and what does it do?
A. NMEA stands for the National Marine Electronics Association. NMEA is the only uniform interface standard for digital data exchange between different marine electronic products. Many of Garmin’s products have the ability to output NMEA data. For example, NMEA allows a Garmin GPS unit to communicate directly with a VHF radio for the purpose of sending position during a distress call.
