The Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) is a program designed to instill in high school students the values of leadership, discipline, citizenship, responsibility, and patriotism. NJROTC is a four-year course of study, but students are not obligated to remain in the program the entire four years. Students receive graduation credits in the NJROTC program, just like any other course.

NJROTC is NOT a recruiting program for the military services. NJROTC is a citizenship, leadership program designed to develop informed and responsible young men and women who value a high degree of personal honor, self- reliance, self-discipline and respect for self and constituted authority in a democratic society. NJROTC is a broad-based program designed to prepare students for life after their high school career. There are two major aspects to the NJROTC program academic and extracurricular. The academic curriculum expands over four courses of instruction and includes topics inpersonal and organizational leadership, government, maritime history, oceanography, several aspects of the U. S. Navy and military life, military functions, navigation, physical fitness/health and wellness, and several other areas. The NJROTC stands for Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, which is the program that AFA follows because we are an Honor Naval Academy. While our Elementary School does not take part in this, our Middle School is slowly initiated and the program is fully carried out during High School.
