What is NIST MT evaluation?
The National Institute of Standards and Technology is a measurement standards laboratory that is a non-regulatory agency of the United States Department of Commerce. The institute’s official mission is to promote U.S. innovation and industrial competitiveness by advancing measurement science, standards, and technology. It conducts annual evaluations of existing machine translation systems from commercial vendors, research organizations, and academia. These evaluations are the MT industry’s largest and most objective evaluations of the state of machine translation systems. The result of the months-long evaluation process is a performance-based ranking of the participants.
