The Northeast Texas Consortium or “NETnet” is the collaborative effort of 15 higher education institutions to bring a wide array of educational opportunities to 50 rural Northeast Texas counties containing 46% of the rural Texas population. First conceptualized by Lt. Governor Bill Ratliff, NETnet was also recommended in an East Texas higher educational need assessment conducted in 1994 by the National Center for Higher Education Management. NETnet’s objective is to make available, via innovative technology applications, a diverse curriculum, specifically designed to meet the evolving needs of a highly competitive, yet geographically isolated, client population. The members are committed to a vision whereby the member institutions provide superior services to their east Texas clientele and maximize the return on investment made on the educational delivery system.
