What is needed to file a civil complaint?
At the time of filing a new civil action, the plaintiff is required to submit to the Clerk’s Office the following documents: • An original plus two copies of the signed complaint (the plaintiff may wish to submit a sufficient number of copies of the complaint for service on each named defendant and to receive a file-marked copy back for his/her own files); • a completed JS-44 Civil Cover Sheet; • a completed summons for each named defendant; • a $350 filing fee (no fee required if the United States is the plaintiff).
