What is needed to eradicate hunger in Africa?
There is no doubt that Africa can feed itself. Africa is a rich continent with huge resources for food production, rich biological and cultural diversity, good and sustainable traditions and practices for food production. There are strong needs for fundamental changes in many polices and practices. Here we just point out a few: The neoliberal policies much be replaced by policies based on the needs of peoples, societies and the environment. Countries must have the right to protect and support food production for domestic consumption, and to regulate import. Food sovereignty has to be respected and implemented. Agroecology and other sustainable methods for food production have to be promoted and used instead of high-tech, quick fix agricultural solutions imported and imposed from outside of Africa.
