What is needed to amend the current Constitution?
Article 142 of the Constitution confers power on Parliament to amend the Constitution. For such amendment there are some procedural requirements. For the amendment of Constitution the Bill must be passed by the votes of no less than two-third of the total number of members of Parliament. The President shall within seven days of the presentation of the Bill after being passed in Parliament with the requisite majority assent to the Bill and if he fails to assent within that time he shall be deemed to have assented the Bill [Art.142 (1) (b)].
