What is NCTM doing to get input from the general public?
In my view, there is a disconnect between us “insiders” and others interested in our field. While a legislative committee may be difficult, are there other mechanisms that might be used? Johnny Lott: NCTM commissioned a stakeholders audit conducted by Hill and Knowlton to help us understand some of the issues that arise in different arenas and how NCTM is viewed by various audiences. The audit surveyed legislators and legislative staff, news media, NCTM members, third-party influencers, and the NCTM Board and leadership. There are probably other areas where people have concerns. That is the reason that my email address has been widely distributed across the country. Perhaps the easiest way to express issues is to let the staff in Reston know.
