What is NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) crash testing?
All vehicles must undergo NCAP crash testing at 35 mph to simulate a severe car accident. Child car seats are only required to crash test at 30 mph. NCAP (35 mph) has almost double the crash impact force of a 30 mph, ‘car seat’ crash test. NCAP is a survivability crash test for a car seat and the child who must depend on it. Radian seats successfully NCAP crash test at both 65 lbs and 85 lbs, and without top tether. Q: Why crash test with no top tether? A: We always recommend tether, but the safe use of a child seat cannot depend on it because: 1) Many seating locations or vehicles do not have top tether anchor points. 2) Most vehicles do not allow top tether use with children above 48 lbs 3) Studies show that less than 30% of car seats are installed with top tether Q: Is the 80 lb lower anchor limit for all LATCH equipped vehicles? A: The 80 lb lower anchor limit for Radian80SL and RadianXTSL (and 65 lb limit for Radian65SL) is only for vehicles manufactured after September 1, 2005 wh
