What is Natural Gas?

0

Natural gas is a clean burning fuel used by homes, businesses and industry for heating, cooking, lighting and many other uses. Natural gas is a combustible mixture of hydrocarbon gases that is extracted from reservoirs underneath the earth. It is refined to remove impurities and the clean natural gas is transmitted through thousands of miles of pipelines to distributors throughout the country.

Natural gas is a mixture of hydrocarbons, predominantly methane (CH4). As delivered through the pipeline system, it also contains hydrocarbons such as ethane and propane and other gases such as nitrogen, helium, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, and water vapor. See the AFDC Fuel Properties database for more details. Natural gas has a high octane rating and excellent properties for spark-ignited internal combustion engines. It is non-toxic, non-corrosive, and non-carcinogenic. It presents no threat to soil, surface water, or groundwater. Most natural gas is extracted from gas and oil wells. Much smaller amounts are derived from supplemental sources such as synthetic gas, landfill gas and other biogas resources, and coal-derived gas. Natural gas accounts for approximately one quarter of the energy used in the United States. Of this, about one third goes to residential and commercial uses, one third to industrial uses, and one third to electric power production. Only about one tenth of o

Natural gas is the cleanest burning fossil fuel. Natural gas is composed primarily of methane and is extracted from reservoirs underneath the earth. By itself, natural gas is odorless, colorless and tasteless. For your safety, UC Gas adds an odorant, which has a rotten egg odor, and makes UC Gas natural gas easy to detect.

Unlike other hydrocarbon fuels (e.g. petrol, diesel and LPG), natural gas consists predominantly of a molecule found naturally in the environment, methane. Natural gas is inherently cleaner than any other fossil fuel and is the cleanest of the “alternative fuels”. As a road fuel, it is available as Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), or as Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). Chive Fuels supplies both LNG & CNG. Back to top of the page METHANE Methane has the lowest carbon to hydrogen ratio of any fuel, apart from pure hydrogen, and is therefore, second only to hydrogen in terms of the carbon dioxide produced when burned. As fuel producers, we take our responsibility of reducing global warming very seriously. In fact we believe that everyone from corporations to individuals has a duty to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emissions they produce. Transport is widely recognized as the fastest growing CO2 producer and we are proud to promote natural gas as an alternative automotive fuel to give everyo

Natural Gas is a fixed supply of gas at a lower pressure that is used is nowadays supplies to many new homes for internal heating, hot water systems and kitchen cooktops. Often a gas room heater will be plugged into a wall bayonet fitting – this uses natural gas. These fittings are now placed externally in patios or backyards for external BBQ consumption. This means that you have a fixed supply of gas at all times and will never run out of gas. Its also cheaper than Bottled Gas(LPG).
