What is NAT?
NAT stands for Network Address Translation. It is an Internet standard that enables a local-area network (LAN) to use one set of IP addresses for internal traffic and a second set of addresses for external traffic. A NAT box located where the LAN meets the Internet makes all necessary IP address translations. NAT provides a basic type of firewall by hiding internal IP addresses, therefore enabling a company to use more internal IP addresses. It also allows a company to combine multiple ISDN connections into a single Internet connection for bandwidth improvement and connection redundancy. Back to FAQ Is IPSec compatible with NAT? One common identifying characteristic used for VPN gateway devices is external IP addresses. If the two VPN gatewaysexchangesigned certificates that bind each gateway’s identity to its IP address, NAT address rewriting will cause IKE negotiation to fail.
The nucleic acid test (NAT) detects the presence of HIV, HCV (Hepatitis C) and WNV (West Nile Virus) in blood using a semi-automated system. It further ensures the safety of blood by permitting earlier detection of HIV, HCV and WNV infections in donors. The NAT system is capable of detecting a few more infectious donors than other tests because it detects viral genes rather than antibodies or antigens. Detections of viral genes permits detection earlier in the infection since the appearance of antibodies requires time for the donor to develop an immune response, and detection of antigens requires time for a higher level of virus to appear in the bloodstream.

Network Address Translation (NAT) provides a way to hide the IP addresses of a private network from the Internet while still allowing computers on that network to access the Internet. NAT can be used in many different ways, but one method frequently used by home users is called “masquerading”. Using NAT masquerading, one or more devices on a LAN can be made to appear as a single IP address to the outside Internet. This allows for multiple computers in a home network to use a single cable modem or DSL connection without requiring the ISP to provide more than one IP address to the user. Using this method, the ISP-assigned IP address can be either static or dynamic. Most network firewalls support NAT masquerading.
