What is “Narrative Therapy” and why does Kids Help Phone use this counselling model?

The aim of Narrative Therapy is to enter into conversation with callers and online users and to help them identify the perceived ‘truths’ about themselves (and others) which play a role in the way they live. This therapy method helps the young person identify who influenced these ‘truths’, why the young person maintains them and who supports/does not support these stories. Through Narrative Therapy, counsellors help young people re-author of these stories and other potential ‘stories’ which could lead the client to different ‘truths’ about him/herself.
