What Is Myeloma Stage II?
Doctors rely on one of two classification systems when determining myeloma stage: the Durie-Salmon staging system and the International Staging System (ISS). Both classify myeloma as stage I, stage II, or stage III. People with myeloma stage II have moderately advanced myeloma. In other words, their disease is more advanced than myeloma stage I and less advanced than myeloma stage III. What Does Myeloma Stage II Mean? The Durie-Salmon system stages a particular case of myeloma based on the following measurements: levels of monoclonal immunoglobulin (a marker found in the blood that indicates how many multiple myeloma plasma cells are at work), number of bone lesions, hemoglobin level (a measure of red blood cells), and blood calcium level.
